Speaking to the U.N: Sra-I'm-sick!
October 2, 2003
Kofi Annan can Sra-I'm-sick! In the rocket-science world of diplomacy, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, "Warned world leaders on Monday that the war against terrorism must go beyond simply fighting extremists but also hold out the promise of a better and fairer world." Ok...so if bin Laden surrenders, we give him a 7-11 to avoid any more 9-11’s.
In a backhanded reproach to the U.S., Annan counseled, "Paradoxically, terrorist groups may actually be sustained when, in responding to their outrages, governments cross the line and commit outrages themselves -- whether it is ...the indiscriminate bombardment of cities, the torture of prisoners, targeted assassinations or accepting the death of innocent civilians as collateral damage." Thank Allah...Annan is trying to civilize the barbaric western response to uncivilized terrorism...self-preservation.
And our "hugs and kisses" Scandinavian friend, Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, adds, "The rule of law and respect for human rights are the first and the best way to counter terrorism...We must provide outlets for human ambitions, for hopes and beliefs, but also for anger and grief." Maybe he can start by building a coliseum where the survivors of 9-11 feed Islamic fundamentalists to hungry Humvee’s. What a great outlet for human anger that would make.
In the movie "Amadeus", Tom Hulce (Mozart) mused, "Because here everything goes backwards. People walk backwards, dance backwards, sing backwards, and talk backwards... People fart backwards." Well, the gasbags over at the U.N. are living proof of that.
Why "must" the U.S. do anything other than defend itself? And if that defense translates into a good offense...all the better. Imagine the scenario where a "fundamentalist Christian" militia flew Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 747’s into the Omayyad mosque in Damascus, the Ali Mosque in Najaf and Kaba (The Holiest Mosque of Islam) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Would the U.N counsel the Muslim world to respect "the rule of law"? Yeah...this law, "'Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal".
Rather, the world (including our egalitarian despots at the U.N.) would hold America responsible "in pleno" not only for the terrorist acts but also for their resolution and reparation. Don’t hold your breath waiting to hear Kofi Annan issue the backwards fart that Christianity is a "peace loving" religion and all Christians shouldn’t be blamed for the atrocities of a few zealots. Or is it that western nations, particularly America, are the only states held to any standard of civilized behavior?
At present, the U.S. has provided Iraq the opportunity of developing "outlets for human ambitions, for hopes and beliefs" and the Iraqi response has been unbridled anarchy. The U.S. has freed the Iraqi people from a barbaric regime at great expense. The U.S. is attempting to aid in the redevelopment of a ramshackle nation at even greater expense to the American taxpayer. All in a landscape where the Iraqis continue to showcase their primal nature and the U.N. member nations continually try to profit from the denigration of America.
Of course, there is our good friend Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf who explains that, "There is a feeling in the Muslim world that Islam is being targeted," because, "Most of the political disputes of our times afflict Islamic peoples and nations." Again, in the world of the backwards, Musharraf is blind to the fact that whoever is targeting the Muslim world missed their target by a couple of continents on 9-11.
Americans are not the perpetrators of Olympic village murders, hijackings, suicide bombings or the destruction of purely civilian targets with purely civilian aircraft. America, like any nation, is protecting its national interests. And its premier interest is self-preservation. If the Muslim world feels abused, perhaps it should find the answer in itself. Members of the Muslim world are responsible for a litany of terrorist acts against western civilians that could almost fill the pages of the Koran. The peace-loving leadership and populations of the Muslim nations have failed to clean their own houses of indigenously spawned terrorists. To the contrary, many of these nations and their populations support this terrorism and rejoice in its horror. Yet, they cry "bully" when America fights back.
All of life is relative and the U.N. is relatively ridiculous. Perfection is expected from the U.S. while apologetic platitudes are spoon-fed to the perpetrators of terrorism. Americans taken captive are beaten, tortured and murdered while the U.S. prepares culturally appropriate meals at the Camp X-Ray detention center. Americans are defiled through the streets of Mogadishu and murdered throughout Iraq while Islamic terrorists are receiving 21st century medical care from the hands of American doctors...hands they would gladly cut off.
If the U.N. is truly looking for a solution to terrorism, perhaps they should look to those who support its perpetrators for solutions. If the Iraqis are truly seeking autonomy, perhaps they should find the answers within themselves.
Saddam Hussein is hiding like a scared rat while the U.S. is trying to deliver aid and comfort to the Iraqi people. And yet, unable to coalesce into a "people" and seek an autonomous future, the Iraqis, if only benignly, continue to tolerate Hussein’s presence amongst them. God, including Allah, only helps those who help themselves. And if the U.N. wants to see peace in Iraq and an end to terrorism, it must stop looking for fall-guys outside of the problem. Responsible parties must take responsibility or face the consequences. But in the backwards world of the U.N., let’s just blame America.
